Thornewood Castle Wedding

Some wedding days feel like they are straight from the pages of a storybook. Kyra and Alex’s summer Thornewood Castle wedding was exactly that—timeless, elegant, and filled with so much love.

Thornewood Castle is a historic, English Tudor-style mansion located in Lakewood, Washington. Built in 1908 by Chester Thorne, it is one of the only genuine castles in the Pacific Northwest. The castle was built using pieces of a 400-year-old English manor that Thorne had dismantled and shipped from England to Washington. The castle’s red brick was also imported from Wales. Many of its ornate windows, woodwork, and other architectural elements came from Europe.

Kyra and Alex exchanged vows in the castle’s breathtaking garden. They were surrounded by blooming summer florals and the warm glow of the afternoon sun. With the castle standing tall in the background and their closest family and friends seated on the lawn, the ceremony felt intimate and personal.

The bride’s dad has Parkinson’s and there was a lot of uncertainty around if he would be able to walk her down the aisle or do the father/daughter dance with her. Thankfully he was able to, and it was a really beautiful and emotional part of the wedding day. Moments like these are why we love what we do. We come up with a Plan B just in case, but when the original plan is able to happen, it is so special. And even more so when it’s something with an important family member or friend.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a relaxed cocktail hour on the castle’s covered patio. They were sipping signature drinks and taking in the stunning views. Inside, the reception space was set to perfection. With candlelit tables, lush floral arrangements in pinks and whites, and soft, elegant details it felt both classic and inviting.
