In case you didn’t see my previous post, or don’t know me personally… my daughter turned one year old just over a week ago! It was such a blast and I had so much fun throwing her little party. I wanted to share some photos and details from her butterfly, flower, and spring themed party. She was born just a few days before the first day of spring, and her nursery has always been decorated with flowers, butterflies, watering cans, and other spring elements. I thought it would make the perfect party theme since we already had a bunch of decor!
I’m warning you now, this is going to be a very picture-heavy post…
I chose the colors lavender, purple, and aqua since those are the main colors of Addy’s nursery. I threw in pink too because pink just makes everything a little more girly. :) Centerpieces were purple and blue polka dot metal watering cans and buckets I found for an awesome deal at Michael’s. I filled them white carnations, lavender roses, mini pink carnations, and baby’s breath from Chase Flowers & Gifts. A purple or blue vase with some more blooms accompanied the watering can as well as a couple of framed photos of Addy from throughout the year.
For food, we made flower and butterfly shaped mini pb&j sandwiches on a stick which were a big hit. We also made flower shaped sugar cookies with purple icing and vanilla cupcakes with a delicious homemade vanilla buttercream frosting (I’ll admit it, the cupcakes were a boxed mix). I ordered adorable edible butterflies from Etsy to place on each cupcake, and they were definitely one of my favorite little details. The cupcakes were also in flower shaped bake cups. :) In addition, we had rainbow fruit skewers, veggies and dip, and delicious deviled eggs my hubby whipped up. A huge thank you to him and my mom for all of the help with the food!
The adorable smash cake was from Alison with Heavenly Delights Cakery. She did a great job and Addy loved the cake, and we certainly enjoyed the leftovers! Unfortunately the lid to the box got pushed down a little too tight, smooshing the top of the cake a bit on the way to the church. But it’s still pretty dang cute!
I loved making this little topper for Addy’s cake!
For a “guest book,” we had guests sign foam butterflies with messages for the birthday girl. I plan to make a little book out of them for Addy to be able to look at when she’s older.
One of my favorite details I created for the party were the favors. I collected soup cans and spray painted them lavender and blue. A friend of mine designed the adorable thank you tags and cupcake toppers that I used in the flowers. We bought inexpensive flowers from Fred Meyer and potted them in the soup cans, attached the tags and voila! Super cute and easy favor that guests can enjoy all spring. For the kiddos, I found little plush flowers that I thought were adorable and went along perfectly with our flower theme.
I took a picture of Addy every month on the same chair and displayed them at the party using ribbon and clothespins. It’s so fun to see how much she’s grown over the last year! I also made a giant number “1” out of photos of Addy, but it got to the party late and I don’t think we captured any photos of it unfortunately. But it’s hanging up in her room now. :)
I decided less than a week before the party that I wanted to do a photo booth. I found so many awesome butterfly and Spring themed props at Dollar Tree! I contacted my friend Cat with I Take Photos to see if by any chance she’d be able to do photos for us on super short notice, and I was so excited that she was! It was a blast having the photo booth and I’m so glad I decided to do it after all.
Here are a couple of the fun photos that Cat captured:
And here is the birthday girl enjoying her cake…
How cute is her crown!? My mom made it. This is the only time Addy kept it on her head for more than a few seconds; I’m so glad we got a few photos with it on.
I can’t believe she’s one already. I’m so happy we have these photos to remember her special day by! I know she won’t remember her party but some day she’ll be able to look back on these photos and see what a fun time everyone had and how loved she is. A huge thank you to my sister-in-law Kyra with Kolt Special Photography as well as Cat with I Take Photos for capturing these memories for us!
I also created this video with photos and video clips from Addy’s first year of life. It was a lot of work but I had so much fun putting it together. Watch if you like. :)
If you’re planning a party of any sort, let me know! I’d love to help you out.
Have a lovely week!
